[history, AI/AN] Call for Information for the year 1848
via Native Research Network list This is an intriguing perspective. I don’t off-hand have info on 1848, but it would be worth reminding the audience about what would NOT be included, assuming the interest is only in the USA and its territories. For example, Alaska, Hawai’i, and New Mexico were not part of the US (if my history lessons memory is correct) until well after 1848. In those three states alone the range of sociopolitical structure, local economic autonomy, and international relations would be across the spectrum (within and between the three). Can anyone else help Dean out? At this years meeting I will be doing a presentation on A Native Perspective; Critical Reflections and Aspirations in the year 1848. I am doing this presentation on behalf of the APHA American Indian/Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian Caucus. In light of this, I want to collect as much historical information, significant events, from a Tribal perspective that occurred in the year 1848. I am very familiar with the history of the Iroquois Nations but not so much with other Tribal histories and perspectives. So I would deeply appreciate your assistance with my presentation. Please forward any and all historical events that occurred, from a native perspective in the year 1848, to my attention. I really want to concentrate on the many other significant events that American historians have ignored. You can send your responses to my email, zkg8 AT cdc DOTgov Thanks! Please feel free to circulate this email. Sincerely, Dean S. Seneca
