[AI/AN, Alaska, health] 2008 Pathways Into Health Conference

Conference date: September 9-10, 2008 CALL FOR ABSTRACTS Pathways Into Health is a grassroots collaboration of more than 200 individuals and organizations dedicated to improving the health, health care and health care education of American Indians and Alaska Natives (AI/AN).- the shortage of AI/AN healthcare professionals. The purpose of this conference is to bring together a diverse group of individuals to contribute to the development of appropriate and effective educational methodologies for primarily distance-based AI/AN health professions education. Three core concepts that will be illuminated to advance this process include: 1 Cultural Attunement 2 Interprofessional Education 3 Distance Learning/Telehealth technologies We are currently accepting abstracts that address one or more of the three core concepts and we are particularly interested in abstracts describing successful implementation of these core concepts in or for American Indian and Alaska Native communities and institutions serving AI/AN individuals. The methodologies to be employed during the conference include expert presentations, panel discussions, facilitated group discussion, and the contribution of Elders and students to facilitate cultural attunement. The abstract should establish that the project is well-developed. Objectives should be stated and abstracts should show concrete results with practical applications. Submission Deadline: July 6, 2008 Presenters will be notified: July 14, 2008 Abstracts are invited for the following categories: (1) call for oral presentations (plenary, panel, concurrent sessions), (2) call for posters, and (3) call for roundtable presentations. Abstracts must be limited to 500 words or less.
